semination (n.)

1530s, "action of sowing," from Latin seminationem (nominative seminato) "a sowing, propagation," noun of action from past-participle stem of seminare "to plant, propagate, sow, engender," from semen (genitive seminis) "seed" (from PIE root *sē- "to sow").

There also was a verb seminate "to sow, spread, propagate" (1530s), from Latin seminatus, but it seems to have been archaic by c. 1800.
