quaternity (n.)

1520s, "set of four persons or things," from Latin quaterni "four each, by fours," from quater "four times" (from PIE root *kwetwer- "four"). By 1839 as "state of being four or making up the number four." An earlier word for "set of four persons or things" was quaternion (late 14c., from Latin quaternionem).
