anxiety (n.)

1520年代, “由危险, 不幸或错误引起的忧虑, 对一些不确定因素的心绪不安, 对一些邪恶的不安恐惧”, 来自拉丁文 anxietatem (名词 anxietas) “痛苦, 焦虑, 忧虑”, 质量名词来自 anxius “不安, 心绪不安” (见 anxious).

有时被认为是一种病理状况(1660年代); 精神病学的使用可以追溯到1904年. Age of Anxiety, 来自奥登的诗(1947年). 对于“焦虑, 苦恼”, 古英语有 angsumnes, 中英语有 anxumnesse.
