air (n.1)

in the air “在一般意识中” 是1875年的. up in the air “不确定, 怀疑” 是1752年的. 要建立 castles in the air “entertain visionary schemes that have no practical foundation” 出自1590年代(17世纪英语曾 airmonger “one preoccupied with visionary projects” ). 广播意义(如 on the air , airplay) 最早记录于1927年. 至 give (someone) the air “解雇” 是1900年的.

Aired; airing.
